TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

trainingphilosophy

Our training philosophy uses the Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) style of training. The techniques we use have been scientifically proven to be the most effective and humane ways to train to help build the best possible relationship between you and your dog. We are also certified as fear free in the pet industry and make every effort possible to avoid fear, anxiety and stress for both you and the dog.

We believe in setting our dogs up for success by considering overall wellness which includes; positive and trusting relationships, enrichment opportunities, agency in their decisions, altering the environment for comfort and safety and maintaining good physical health.

Our training philosophy using positive reinforcement techniques include the use of treats, praise or other life rewards (such as a walk, car ride, petting, playtime, toys etc). Using these tools as well as management techniques personalized to your dog’s needs, we’re able to avoid as much insecurity as possible while positively influencing your dog’s outlook and helping them make the best choices.

We’re not going to lie, training requires patience and consistency as well as carefully setting up your dog’s surroundings to allow for the best outcome. But we are here for you! Your pet will learn that they have autonomy over their own behavior. The outcome will be a confident, well behaved dog that has a strong, loving relationship with you and your family that is built on trust and communication.

Our in-home dog training allows you to move at your own pace. Every dog is unique and we understand that every human learns at their own speed as well. We will teach you how to communicate with and support your beloved family member by helping to not just train your dog but also refine the skills that you use to work with them. We excel at educating dogs on the foundations of being attentive and well mannered. Getting started on the right paw is important for any new puppy or dog in your home. If your dog has behavioral concerns, we are also well versed at many issues and have seen quite an array over our years of working in the field. Our experience in working through many behavior problems and doing so with a variety of different breeds will help us tailor a program that is specific not only to you and your dog but which includes consideration of your schedule, your environment and you and your family’s specific goals as well.

Typical behavioral issues include but are not limited to:

  • Chewing, biting, digging or destroying objects
  • Begging for food or attention or counter surfing
  • Not following cues like sit, come, heel
  • Pulling on a leash
  • Excessive barking
  • Fear/Shyness/Nervousness
  • Poor relationships within the household
