FAQ

WHAT IS YOUR TRAINING PHILOSOPHY?

We offer relationship focused, evidence based techniques and positive reinforcement training for you and your dog that address a variety of manners and behavioral needs.

HOW MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE HAVE YOU HAD AS A DOG TRAINER?

Marni has been running her own training business since 2012 and Mehak has been training professionally since 2016. They both decided to combine their knowledge and expertise and started Sensible Canine in 2022.

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF ANY DOG TRAINING CLUBS OR AFFILIATIONS?

We are proud members of the Colorado Dog Trainers Network. Marni holds a dog training certification from Animal Behavior College and Mehak holds a Certification in Professional Dog Training – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Counsel for Pet Dog Trainers (CCPDT). We are also both Fear-Free Certified.

HOW DO I GET STARTED WITH IN-HOME OR GROUP TRAINING?

First we schedule a free 15 minute inquiry phone call which can be done here. Before your call, we ask that you fill out a discovery questionnaire to give us more details. During our call, we’ll get to know you and determine how we can best help you with your training needs.

If you decide to move forward from there, we will schedule a 1 hour initial consultation.

IS THERE A BENEFIT TO SIGNING UP FOR A PACKAGE FOR IN-HOME TRAINING?

Packages are offered at a discounted rate. We’ve found that not much is accomplished in just one session as training requires consistency. Our manners add-on package is 5 additional sessions and our behavior add-on package is 4 additional sessions. Both include the 1 hour initial consultation.

CAN I PAY FOR A SESSION INDIVIDUALLY?

Absolutely. This is a great option for those who would prefer to pay session by session rather than in a lump sum or if you are looking to do less sessions. We also offer a discounted rate for additional single sessions once a package is complete.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT?

We understand that sometimes things come up and you cannot make your scheduled appointment. If this is the case, we ask for a 48-hour notice when canceling or rescheduling. Otherwise the session will be considered forfeited. Of course, we understand that emergencies happen i.e. car accidents, sicknesses, family emergencies, or inconducive weather. If any of these are the case, we will gladly work with you.

WHO IS THE SENSIBLE SKILLS MANNERS GROUP CLASS GOOD FOR?

This class is ideal for dogs four months and up who could use help with basic skills such as focus and attention skills, sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it, loose leash walking, polite greetings, relax on a mat, recall and building on these skills with distractions.

CAN I ATTEND SENSIBLE SKILLS MANNERS GROUP CLASS WITH A REACTIVE/FEARFUL DOG?

This class is not suitable for reactive or fearful dogs. We highly recommend starting off with a private consultation to see if your dog will succeed in class or if there are things we can work through in private sessions.

CAN I BRING ADDITIONAL FAMILY MEMBERS INCLUDING CHILDREN TO CLASS?

Yes, we welcome all family members to join. Children who are able to focus and not disrupt class are always encouraged to participate. The more, the merrier.

HOW LONG ARE THE GROUP CLASSES AND WHERE ARE THEY HELD?

Our Sensible Skills class typically runs for 5 weeks with one hour long session each week and we meet at Mantayo Kennels

WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SESSION OR CLASS?

We encourage you to have a variety of different treats that won’t upset your dog’s stomach and, ideally, a front-clip harness and a regular 6-8 foot leash for walks. We also recommend having a chew or treat toy that your dog loves to keep them distracted while we talk for parts of our initial consultation or group class.

CAN I SEE A COPY OF YOUR CONTRACTS?

Yes, check out our private training contract here and our group training contract here.
